The Amazing Singles - Quezon City Feast

So this is about the September run of Quezon City Feast Singles' Gathering!
I find it very refreshing.
I came rather late so when I entered the room, they’re already playing the seven-up icebreaker game.

Then the program started!
A short AVP about being one’s greatest!

The second activity which took the bulk of the time is the main dish of the day.

Our task:

“I am ready to love you…"

Okay, just yesterday I watched a short wedding video of the newlywed couple Kyla and Rich Alvarez.
To put it in context, Kyla was one of my very few crushes in the local showbiz before. HAHA
She sings very well, and she sings from the heart.

You know, I am really biased, and am more gravitated to those kind of performers. My belief is that if they can easily deliver songs from the heart, then it’s equally natural for them to do anything from the same heart, loving included. HAHA
You can watch their cute video below!

The video shows Rich saying many times to Kyle “I am ready to love you”.
I am quite moved by the message after hearing it several times, so I thought of writing a short reflection on it.
I hope the new couple wouldn’t mind me doing this.

Let’s try to peel and feel more his short but complete message (at least for me):  I AM READY TO LOVE YOU.

A Secret Every Woman Should Know

This will be quick.
If you’re a woman, and want to “attract” more men than the normal way, here’s what you can do –
Be with someone else in your presence.
That means (1) find one person to serve as your buddy (2) limit your size to a pair.
As much as possible, make your buddy a woman as well. Making it a man wont be bad though, but just to make sure we’re sending the right message to the universe, better make it a woman.
It’s extremely important that you stick with only ONE buddy because the impact diminishes with an increase in number of your group.

Being alone but confident is fantastic. It flashes an oozing independent image to the universe, which men really like.

Being in a pair sets that effect to a maximum.

But the moment that you add more to the group,

the moment you make it a trio,

or a quadruplet,

 or more,

the effect gradually ceases, and you become just like an ordinary.
Worse, you don’t make your presence felt, because you have covered yourself with too much unnecessary “relations”.
Now, think of your friends who now enjoy having their partner. Then evaluate how this principle have worked in their life. Does it ring a bell??
Do they have that common loyalty to a very small group if not one bestfriend? J

This of course doesn’t mean that you don’t join big groups. That’s a big NO NO!
Go join as many as you can.

But at the end of the day, when all the dust has settled, make sure you have that one person you’ll automatically end up with.
Got it?!
Now find your best buddy!

Happy  loving,

What Women Want Men to Know - A Book Review

This blog kicks-off the series of review of every book I read.
This year I committed to finish at least one book a month (though some take more time than that)

from http://simania.co/

And what’s a better  way to start the series than to review the actual first-ever non-academic book I ever had: - What Women Want Men to Know.
Tagged as the ultimate book on love, sex and relationship, and written by renowned human relations expert Barbara de Angelis, this 400plus-pages book reveals everything to know about women, from really knowing  and recognizing their basic needs ,  to learning what they think about love, intimacy and communication , up to their sexual secrets and turn-ons and offs, guiding men how to be the perfect lover in and out of bed.
While its title says the things needed to be known by men, the book is equally useful for women in understanding more their identity.
THE JOURNEY
I bought the book during my junior early fourth year in college in Powerbooks in their Robinsons Galleria branch. I had just had my playtime in Timezone, when I entered their store and accidentally found this book on sale.
I got intrigued by the title, so I scanned through it and read some pages. When I realized the content was a bargain for its cheap price, I went to the cashier, paid for it, stepped out of their store, and continued reading it again.
That decision unexpectedly started the series of powerful and useful revelations I had about the most complicated creature of the universe – W-O-M-A-N.

22 Wishes for my 22nd Birthday!

Wheeee!.
Tomorrow, I’ll be turning 22!
(Yeap, I’m that young!  I thank my parents for not using contraceptives and condoms during their honeymoon :P)
Which means I’ve been over this planet for 21 years!
And reflecting on it, the whole year from July 10 2010 to July 20 2011 is by far the most “core-year” of my life! Everything that transpired during the last year will seem to have a fruitful lasting effect to all  my other pages to come. It’s like I was born again!
Haha actually, that’s a pattern I discovered early this year, that this life gets more and more challenging yet exciting through the ages.
But for the last year it’s most probably because it coincides with my stepping on the new phase of my life as a working man after graduation, plus the painful-from-start-but-rewarding-in-the-end journey of a recovering brokenhearted guy. Wushu ^^.
Now my heart cannot contain the joy and hope it has inside. I thank my previous love for breaking my heart, giving way for me to find out that life has more in store for me, and then all the people around me who served as Daddy’s channel of His undeserved unconditional love.
To share, one of the most significant highlights I had was the change of some of my core life beliefs.  I have come to realize that in the past several years I was holding (subconsciously) some beliefs which I found out are not really supportive for my goals.
My world was rocked insight after insight, lesson after lesson, day after day.
And one of it is in the idea of receiving.
After I read a book, and munched it for some time, I decided to start being a good receiver!
Now that’s shocking for me!
Before, I really felt awkward being on the receiving end.
Whenever I would do something, and someone would give something in return, I just wouldn’t accept it. Or at least I would accept it half-heartedly.
Deep inside I would answer “oh, forget that, it’s my service to you. It’s everyone’s calling to help…”
In hindsight, it was because of my religious belief that giving is better than receiving.
Thanks to Dad I know better now!
While I still keep the high value of giving, now I also understand that my saying NO to receive also somehow discredits the generous action of the giver. That every time I decline, I rob him of the same opportunity I wanted to have.
The moment I realized that, I told the universe that from day on, I would start to have a cheerful receiving heart, ready to embrace the abundance of all of God’s creation. And it started a brand new world… a new life… a new me…
With that said, lemme  give you that chance of being in  the giving end. Hehe.
Don’t worry, according to a friend (who celebrates his birthday a day after mine, Jully11), every atom of this universe follows the law of receiving through giving! J That’s one of the greatest irony of life.
So to give you that opportunity of giving, here is a short list of my wishes! Whaha.
For those who can afford a little:
1.       A coin purse.  The last one I had was a souvenir from a friend from Baguio, that small red woven purse, but sadly it just went out of my sight one day.
2.       A copy of any of the following:
            facing the giants
rudy
brian's song
seabiscuit
the express
we are marshall
friday night lights
glory road
shawshank redemption
good will hunting
finding forrester
field of dreams
rocky
hotel rwanda
cinderalla man
remember the titans

Got this list of inspiring movies from a forum.  I realized I have fewer idols now, and I feel the need to add more.  Recently, I included Ninoy Aquino after I watched a documentary film about him; the latest is Ryan Bang for being such a true person and true sport in the local showbiz!
3.       A comb. I just have the most disobedient hair-type!  I want a thin tiny comb I can bring anywhere I go, for disciplinary measures. J
This second list is for those who can afford more than a little!
4.       A flash drive, this got lost together with my coin purse above.
5.       A SmartBro/Globe Tatoo kit – also got lost together with my flash drive.
I had my SmartBro when SMART gave free units in our univerisity. Luckily, we were happy going that time to UP shopping center while they were still doing their set-ups, so we were among the first who signed-up in their list.
6.       A Swatch Watch! This is the most personal for me.  The last I had was my first personal purchase worth a few thousands financed by my part-time work as an ES1 student assistant.  It’s my first buy out of my own toil and sweat. (actually walang sweat, hehe)
7.       A Silver necklace. I just love the simplicity of the color silver. It appears to me as the most sincere color. Haha.
8.      A book by Kuya Bo Sanchez, Awaken the healer in you, yes, I really still have a lot of rooms for improvement!
Finally this third list is for those who prefer to give in a more intimate way J:
9.     Your prayer for my personal prayer #1
10.   Your prayer for my personal prayer #2
11.   Your prayer for my personal prayer #3
12.   Your prayer for my personal prayer #4
13.   Your prayer for my personal prayer #5
14.   Your prayer for my personal prayer #6

Sorry, I was planning to have 22 wishes, but you see, I just can't think anymore of what to add in my life.

I am fortunate I had decided to live a simple life, with all its imperfections.
Everything I enjoy is readily available to me, the  wide blue sky, the cirrus and cumulus clouds, the birds flying, the planes flying (I love seeing this in our office!), the trees growing, the mountains, the fields, the people, the kids,..
Oh, and those mumbo jumbo secret prayers, , if you don’t pray for something you don’t know, as I said, I started not to look a gift horse in the mouth, whaha.
Happy birthday to all celebrants!
fun fun fun,,,

Happy Birthday Lolo Jose!

Just like every Filipino, I have known Rizal ever since I was a playful kid.
image from http://www.alpsaguado.com/
Schools have consistently given me the picture of Rizal as having that peaceful way of bringing national reformation during his time.
However I only got real appreciation of his story back during my senior year in college, when I took that mandatory course focusing on the Life and Works of Rizal, tagged PI 100 in UP.
We had it every Saturday, a long three-hour class from 9am-12pm. While the rest of UP students were having their extended recovery time after a weeklong catching up with class requirements and exams, we all his students were pushed to think critically catching insights and having more questions from the works of our national hero.
Fortunately I was very lucky that time to have no less than National Historical Institute (NHI) chair Sir Ambeth Ocampo as my professor.
I can really say and strongly attest that he’s one of the best teachers I had in my academic student life.
Aside from his innate great sense of humor while teaching (and I am talking here no non-sense humor), his methods of teaching strategically enforces the type of learning the future builders of the country needs.
image from
http://images-mediawiki-sites.thefullwiki.org/
Though appearing and sounding hard-headed at times, his convictions, views and arguments are more than enough to make me believe in his stories. J
His requirements and exams are quite demanding and challenging, but the realizations and self-examination it brought me in the end made all those worth it.
But going back to Rizal, through my PI100 class, Rizal slowly became one of my idol.
In fact, I started writing my personal journal after knowing that Rizal had his own autobiography, and a lot more of letters and correspondences to various people.
He had great thoughts and beliefs on what our country really needs, many of which still applies to our present condition.  I even remember his suggested curriculum for college students which he believed would make a person round and sound, including sports and spiritual formation.
His way of thoughts make him seemed to be in a different generation.
His records of writings also pulled me to him even more. There are books just compiling all his communications through writing. I am just an avid believer of the power of personal handwriting in expressing intentions and emotions. (In fact, when I spot a girl I like, I let her know by giving her a handwritten letter. It’s just like I think it’s more sincere when each stroke is pushed by that magic ink of love. Whaha. )
Interstingly, Rizal also had his own weak spots showing his human side, proving that one need not be perfect to make a dent in this planet. Actually, his petite physique similar to my body type also add more reasons why I should admire him. J
And finally, what else can connect Rizal to anyone more than through his very exciting lovelife story?!
Heloooo, where in the world would you find a hero and playboy in one? Haha!
Sometimes I play with my thoughts that if Rizal had gone through many woman and still ended up being a national hero, then doing the same shouldn’t make me any less as a person. Hehe.
But on a more serious note, sad to say, the social cancer Rizal had aimed to solve during his time continues to ail the nation up to now. After one and a half century, real independence, from poverty and corruption, is still a dream for many.
May we all be reminded and inspired by the great examples he had shown to make us do our fair share in shaping our country!
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
Mabuhay and Pilipino!

Mabuhay ang holiday sa Monday! whaha

Borawan, Jellyfish, School

Last month I became part of some lagalags to the beautiful province of Quezon, Philippines.
2011 kicked-off my goal of going into a province I have never been to, at least once every quarter, or at least four times annually. So that escapade was the first piece of the puzzle for the year.

Quezon province was simply fantastic. At least the Padre Burgos region we visisted.
It was jawdropping-exciting.  I felt very proud I live here in the Philippines. And places like those make me more convinced that our country still has a lot of potential the rest of the world is yet to be surprised of.

Well, as my friends know, enjoying with nature is my vice.
I just so love seeing trees, touching plants, digging soils, climbing mountains and things like those.
That one was an exact picture of it.
A great bang!
Bang Bang!

Somehow I felt like Adam the first man at the center of what I see as a big jungle,  with the woman from my tadyang as the only lacking in the picture.  Whaha!

There have been lots of write-ups written about the inherent splendor of the place, so I would instead just share those personal experiences I still recall

The Island - Lipata, Dampalitan , Borawan

We met at Laguna and arrived at the Padre Burgos town by lunch time, after around 3-4 hrs of travel.
Then we took a boat to go to our first destination. Borawan was the original plan, but since not a few bakasyonistas were already there that time, the group decided to shift plan and went to the near Lipata island instead. We had our lunch there, after which we went climbing the mountain and enjoyed the silent beauty of its hidden caves.
It was tiring, of course, but at the same time fulfilling. Haha.
I love mountain climbing because it let me see the entire beauty of the island. An incomparable place!

Afternoon that day, we went next to Borawan.  That was a smaller island, mostly occupied by large mountain rock formations. We spent the night in that island.

Borawan island
It was my first time to do such a camping activity. Well. I had done overnight stays in beaches during some out-of-town trips before, sleeping on the sand, facing the dark heaven filled with infinite bright stars, letting the streams of photons from the rising sun of the next morning to be my alarm clock.

But that time was different as we’re totally surrounded by silent deep bodies of water.  We only got to hear the sounds produces of waves chasing and hitting  the shoreline. (Aside of course from the story-sharing of other groups present). I thank my friends for being very prepared for that kind of set-up that it became not hard for me  for my first try. HAHA.
I was amused with the idea that we’re completely isolated.  There was no way to escape and we would need a boat to get us back to the town of the living.
Incidentally that day was rumored to be the last day of the world. I was contemplating, at least I would enjoy it with some friends, in place that already feels like heaven.
Mushy-Pushy
Hmm. I actually felt slightly sad at the point we transferred to Borawan. When we left it, we also left the old man who had first welcomed us in our first step on its sand.
That old man seemed to be living alone in his house, with just some doggy pets that prefer playing with each other in the sand.
Someone in the group even disclosed how he sensed the gloom feel of the old man who had managed and prepared himself for the coming night with some strangers, only to receive the news that we would spend the night in Borawan.
I’m quite sure he’s used to that, but I really just can’t imagine living that same way everyday.
Vacation , yes. But as life? It seemed torturing for me.
Actually there are some neighbors around, but he had to walk a distance to associate with them.  Tapos wala pa siyang kuryente!
I couldn’t help but picture many times the next morning coming for him, which might just be the same as that lonely night, except for the free light offered by the sun.
Hehe, well that’s just a squashy cheesy me. Senior citizens really have special in my heart, especially lolos, as I myself practically grew with my grandfather. I really hope and pray that he would really enjoy the remaining time of his life.
Let’s talk about jellyfish!
Unfortunately, during that time of our stay, jellyfish seemed wanting to welcome us too in the water.
Many would agree that jellyfish can ruin the sea adventure of anyone just by a slight physical contact with them.
innocent jellyfish
In fact, I had been a victim of their kingdom.
I remember taking revenge one time after mercilessly caressed by their soft tentacles.
I catched others from the water and let it die on the sand, under the roaring heat of the sun.
Ironically, those creatures also look like the most innocent thing living in the sea. They seem to me that they don’t  ave any idea of what they were doing.
When I catched a really big one and brought it out of the water, I was somehow stirred by his final reaction, like a transparent human heart beating and grasping for final breath.
So I did some research about them to know what they’re really in earth for, to understand them more and appreciate their graceful flying-dancing show in the sea water.
And here’s what I found out.
Jellyfish does not have a brain, head, eyes, ears  and even ………. A heart! (Can you imagine people w/o a heart?)
They also have no bones and their body is more than 90% water! (Human body is 60% water!)
They only got networks od nerves to respond, like when they want to hug your smooth legs, but they really don’t think about those things.
And here I am talking about revenge on an innocent creature who had no intention of hurting anyone, just that they are really totally ignorant of their doings. Poor jellyfish. Haha.
The school
On the other corner, in the Lipata island, at the foot of the mountain stands a small classroom. It’s a one-floor building with fence around its vicinity.
When we went down the mountain, we sat down and did chitchats about the room for a while.  Their place is also isolated, so we thought it’s very probable that the school’s teachers are also just their neighbors, though we’re not sure if that’s the only school teaching young minds in that area.
classroom-school
Nothing extraordiany actually, but having high value on education, I see it as the fountain source of hope people there badly needs.

That’s all for now(after long time of not updating this blog)!
Sorry for this pointless writing.
Just sharing...
and really reminding myself of my goal of buying my own camera. haha

Happy weekend!

Omeng meets Angel Corpuz

HAHA!
So this blog kicks-off the series Omeng Meets.
In this series, the blog will serve as the avenue for anyone to send and shoutout their unique message to the world.

This is to my belief  that each of us can  bring significant  influence and impact to others even with just our own little personal stories. Whoooo!

Now this blog features a college friend of mine.
Let's all meet Angelica Revibes Corpuz.

I met Angel during my undergrad days in UP.
Though we're in the same engineering department since our first year, it was only when we met in one  major class that I've got to know her better.

If my memory serves me right, this woman was apparently demanding at first. That's my first impression. Haha

I recall the days when she would insist me to help her answer a problem set. She spoke in a way that I felt like it's my solemn obligation and job to assist her.

Of course I would be very much willing to help anyone in need, but the problem was that I almost always finish asignments at most two days before the deadliest deadline, but she  on the other hand would plan to finish it right after it's given by our teacher.
So it's like bending my own schedule just to fit hers.

Right after class, she would invite me to go to the library to answer the recently giiven problems set together, leaving me no choice   but to sacrifice that long nap I'd been craving for the day. Haha

She's really a woman who makes the way to her every will.

Okay, enough of that bukingan<peace angge!> but certainly it was those times of doing things together  that strengthened whatever was between us before. It even  paved the way to our same grouping in our thesis and plant design requirements, which opened more opportunity for us working together in our last year stay in the university.

And I tell you, she's very organized person in all her own things, that we other members of the group had to adjust to her supportive study habits.   Most of the time,  she's the one acting as the leader in our group, delegating each task and setting deadlines. She had that confidence of asking favors for our benefits, and initiating an activity left undone. And whenever one groupmate unreasonably failed to finish his part, be ready for her stagnant look. You wouldn't hear a word, but you'd really feel it. haha.

Surprisingly, she's also a sophisticated lady, something you wouldn't expect from her at first look. She's also a leader in her own right, abled to manage a big umbrella of provincial organizations, showing her national level prowess. Bwahaha!
Her Motto: If there's a will, there's a way, a definitely winning attitude.

Too bad it's too late for her to give back to her father. But though she couldn't do it physically to him now, I truly believe that her father would be as much as happy seeing her daughter thrive in her pursuit of success, ultimately blessing those around her.

So there. Let's all learn to treasure and feel the love of all our loved ones whenever we have the chance of doing so. We dont't know its end may just be lurking around the corner.

The Royal (and hopefully loyal) Couple Wheeeee!!!!

How to Pass Chemical Engineering (ChE) Board Exam Philippines - Five Crucial LessonsYou Should Know

In only roughly more than two weeks time, a new batch of Chemical Engineering graduates will test their prowess to become part of a noble profession. I have been there, and I know the feeling of anxiety and fretfulness knowing the days slowly sneaking. So I made this blog to hopefully somehow reduce the unease outlook you may have inside.

This could have been more credible had I made it to the top 10 during my turn, but being a passer alone is not bad either.
So to pass on my dreams and let you fulfill it for me, I’m offering to you some helpful advices for your next big challenge.

I won’t tackle the other common exam-taking techniques and strategies applicable to general exams. Go google it.  What follows instead are some specific tips and tricks for ChE board exam based on my own recent experience and my friends’ as well.
Stop your preparation for a while, and let me take your hand toward a more rewarding examination experience. J

1.       Test your basics - Remember that what you’re preparing for is a national board exam, and is not going to be the kind you had in school. In my case, it was way far from being as detailed and meticulous as what I had in my review school.
In all probability, it would only test if you know what every chemical engineer should know - which we call the foundation.
There’s some truth to the statement “You can never be prepared”.
The fact is that the exam is going to be just a set of questions from limitless possibilities, which means you get to pass or not based on your knowledge on that particular set only.  So it might be wise to put more focus on the basics and fundamentals of each subject matter, then just build-up on that in case some question requiring more complicated solutions arise.
By doing this you also help yourself identify what to review and limit what you should pay attention to, maximizing your memory space.

In fact, some will be either-you-know-it-or-you-don’t type of questions, leaving you no choice but to rely only on your heavy guts feel and educated guess to pick the right one. So to avoid having so much to remember, going back to the core is our first rule.

2.       Assess. We know it. In exams like this, we’re actually tested in two ways – one is on what’s inside our brain, next is on our exam-taking skills.  We can’t do anything in the former after all our preparation, but it’s on the second we want to leverage on. Remember that examiners won’t mind on how you got your answer. The important thing is you get the right one, however you arrive to it.

So what now?
If you know readily that a problem can be solved by mere substitution of a choice, do so and avoid any self-exhibitions with your long solution. This will save you a lot of time. (This is more applicable to trial-and-error-solutions requiring problems, like in … uh,friction factor correlation?)
Clustered questions often appear, and the good thing about this is that though you may not find the answer to one question in the ladder by itself, simply playing around with the known relationships of all the choices of all members of the cluster can be helpful. You can always do this if you follow the first advice above. (It’s a different discussion though if the examiner happens to be more playful than your creative minds.).

3.       Widen your resources.

Always recall that on the actual day itself, you only have three tools readily available to the rescue, (1) the prayers you sent to heaven, (2) your Perry’s handbook, and (3) your calculator.  All your loved ones can use the first tool for you, but it’s only you who can use the other two for yourself. Thus I strongly suggest that you capitalize on these and dedicate at least two days of your final review, relying on these two tools alone - no more looking at solved problems, crosschecking with other reference books or asking your friend. At least familiarize the books’ contents’ location and and on how to maximize your calculator’s features.  You may also consider simulating the actual exam by doing your practice exam straight morning to afternoon.

 4.       Intermingle. Many heads will always be better than one.   The overall preparation can be hard doing it alone, but a pair or a circle of friends can make it a fun experience as well.
Go find a potential group where you can join and exchange ideas with and do your final self-assessment.  I assure you, it will save you a lot of time and effort, plus it eliminates possible distractions. Additionally, it adds confidence, which, some would say, is the name of the game.

5.       Doubt the questions and choices.  Finally, this is one factor that can define a topnotcher. While the rest of the exam-takers spend their time left figuring out the answer and checking their results against the choices, potential topnotchers begin to doubt what’s provided to them, and then start wondering on where the potential error could be.
Most of us are trained to doubt ourselves when we don’t get the exact answer or solution to a problem. But don’t always do it in your board exam after you’ve exhausted all means to solve it and all seemed futile.
Sometimes the problem is not with your brain but with the exam itself.
So what to do? Be creative.

Check the given values, especially the physical properties constants added, and see whether it complements your common sense or stock-memory.
Next, use your wild imagination on figuring out how your “sure answer” can match one of the choices.  It might be that there’s a typographical error committed by the exam encoder, or the printing output is not clear and readable enough or whatever that’s overlooked by the examiners in their final checking.
In extreme cases the formula (specifically the subscripts, superscripts, exponents) can be misplaced (or misaligned) and you have to navigate through the entire page to solve the puzzle first before doing calculations again.
In either case, you need to take an extra look on these watch-outs if you want to leverage on and take advantage of it.
But again, do this only when you’re 99.9% sure that all your capacity have been tested to check the accuracy of your own solutions. Relying on this tactic after just your first failed attempt can be hurtful in the end.

There you go.
My final advice - take it easy.
Don’t pressure yourself too much if you believe you’ve done your due diligence. Remember that a mere license can never fully dictate the course of your life. It may become a turning point, but that’s only it, a point, and it’s all up to you on how you’re going to connect it with other more important points and milestones you want to achieve in your life.
A professional license may be an additional help for you to enter the gateway of opportunities, but it should never limit you in achieving your dreams and adding value to this world.

Okay? Okay!
Good luck and be victorious!
